CHARLESTON STROLL Instructional
THE CHARLESTON STROLL | LINE DANCES at the PIER SERIES
LEVEL: 2+
The Charleston Stroll was originally choreographed by world renowned Lindy Hopper Sing Lim at the height of the swing resurgence in America. In her own words “I did it as a Charleston Class for Erin's Swing Camp Catalina in 1998 or 99. I wanted to do something that the class could perform at the Sunday night barbeque”
The choreography is made to match the song “Put a Lid on it” by The Squirrel Nut Zippers. It has since been performed around the world to that number as well as other Charleston style music.
The line dance is a 16 bar (4 phrase) stroll that turns ¼ to the left after the patterns have been completed. It combines classic Charleston steps in a unique and playful manner that is a throw back to the roaring 20s.
Note: Camp Catalina which was held during the years 1994 – 2004) was the premier swing camp (hosted by the PBDA) which contributed to the resurgence and re-birth of The Lindy Hop in the USA.
